Rutgers University Learning Assistant

September 2022—May 2024

As a Learning Assistant (LA) at Rutgers, I got to develop my leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills by actively participating in classroom lectures made up of about 20-25 students. I previously assisted with a School of Arts and Sciences intro-level math course called Topics in Mathematics for Liberal Arts. The course dives into all sorts of different topics, a few being: fair division, apportionment, and graph theory.

As an LA, I walked around the classroom and helped students with material that they were having trouble with. I ensured that I did not simply give out an answer, instead I promoted active learning by utilizing scaffolding techniques and facilitating two-way discussion. By encouraging students to take a role in their own learning, I helped students to remember and learn the concepts of the course.
